This week’s Doris Project comes to us by way of – me!
I sent mom this recipe, based on a recipe printed in the Louisville Courier-Journal in 1990, then tried by me ten or so years ago and promptly forgotten, tho’ I cannot image why; these are seriously good green beans!
The original recipe called for fresh or canned beans, but I thought a 12 ounce bag o’ frozen worked a treat. You do what you want.
INGREDIENTS
•2 slices bacon
•1 small onion, chopped
•1 clove garlic, minced
•12 oz thawed frozen cut green beans
•1/2 tsp seasoned salt
•Black pepper
•1/2 cup barbecue sauce
Cook bacon in the wave (I season mine with a bit of Gateway to the North Maple Seasoning and garlic powder), then cool and crumble.
Heat a bit of butter, bacon grease, or veggie oil in a skillet, then sauté the onion and garlic for six minutes, until the onion is tender and translucent.
Add the green beans and bacon and toss to coat.
Season with the seasoned salt and pepper to taste, then stir in the barbecue sauce, turn into a small casserole, cover and bake at 275º for one hour.
