Apple Dump Cake

02bCakeIceCreamCaramelbfLOYesterday’s post was good, but a might involved, what with making buttermilk and all, so let’s take it easy today, and put together some dessert to go with our meatloaf – a cake!

“But, but, wait!” you say “Cake is tricky!”

Not this cake.

There are only three ingredients, and no mixing or stirring; just a bit of apple chopping and butter melting.

01aIngredientsLOLet us also thank the nice folk at Betty Crocker™ for a fine, and wicked simple, recipe (I know, I didn’t use one of their mixes, I had this one in the pantry, and it just proves you’ll get a good result whichever brand you try.

01bApplesPanbfLOINGREDIENTS
•4 cups (or so, I went a bit heavy) peeled and chopped apples
•1 yellow cake mix
•3/4 cup butter, melted

Heat your oven to 350º and apply cooking spray to the bottom of a 13×9 baking pan.

Arrange the apples in the bottom of the pan in more or less a single, level layer.

01cCakeMixbfLOTop the apples with the cake mix, smoothing the mix over the apples to make an even, level covering.

01dButterbfLOPour the melted butter over the cake mix layer, trying to spread it out all over the cake. Don’t fret too much if not all spots are covered by the butter, it’ll all work out in the oven.

02aCakeBakedbfLOPop the whole shebang in your heated oven and bake for 45 to 50 minutes – mine was perfect at 45 minutes.

The nice folk at Betty Crocker™ recommend serving this warm, mebbe with a bit of good vanilla ice cream and some caramel sauce, but, if you’ve made yours a bit ahead, just pop a slice in the ‘wave for about 15 seconds, then proceed with the ice cream and caramel sauce.

Yummers.
