on a gray and dreary day. How cool is this? The current harvest from teh garden is more than enough for a nice salad – I’m thinking romaine, chickpeas, feta, cucumber, carrots, onion, peppers, and these little beauties – and should make a nice accompaniment to today’s red curry experiment. I have a bottled mix from Trader Joe’s, but think I’ll just go for broke and make it from scratch.
Yesterday was filled with the unsuccessful hunt for pine nuts – almond basil pesto, mebbe? – and the pretty darned successful replenishment of our meatball stocks, using, of course, Rich’s mom’s recipe. I mixed it up just a touch – using a mixture of ground beef, chicken and pork; and adding a nice blend of sautéed onion, garlic, yellow pepper and celery. All in all, this batch of meatballs – I ended up with 56, after tasting to ensure product quality 😉 – is nice, with a light flavor that will work as well with spaghetti sauce as it would over noodles with sour cream – or maybe with a spiced glaze as a cocktail munchy – Marilyn makes a nice one with grape jelly and stuff.
Now it’s time to run – I’m meeting a friend for lunch at Avalon, and so am faced with a dilemma – do I stick with my traditional breakfast (mmmm corned beef hash), or go boldly into the lunch menu? Decisions, decisions…
