Cheers to this refreshing, spring-y cocktail!
And…shhhh – don’t tell, but it is made with Gin! See, the thing is, even folk who don’t care for gin will more than likely totally enjoy this – my friends certainly did. I adapted the original recipe from the nice folk at propercocktails.wordpress.com – who, by the way, gave it “five livers” – so that I didn’t need to be shaking up a drink every time someone’s glass got low. I scaled up the recipe to make a pitcher of base, then could add the gin and the splash of seltzer.
Note: you really should try this with the gin, but if you simply cannot, go ahead and try it with vodka.
INGREDIENTS
Simple Syrup:
•1 cup sugar
•1 cup water
Mix:
•4 oz lemon juice
•2 oz Maraschino liqueur
•2 oz Maraschino cherry syrup
•2 oz simple syrup
Cocktail:
•2 oz mix
•2 oz gin or vodka
•Float seltzer
•Maraschino cherries
First, make your simple syrup by adding water to the sugar in a small saucepan.
Heat, stirring, over medium heat until the sugar has dissolved.
Set aside to cool, then transfer to a jar and stash in the fridge for up to one month.
Make your cocktail mix by stirring the lemon juice, Maraschino liqueur and the syrup together with the cooled simple syrup in a pitcher.
Make your cocktail by pouring two ounces each of the mix and the gin over ice in a glass, adding a spritz of seltzer and a cherry.
Lovely.
