A Return to Sweet Honey French Bread

FrenchBread2011bfLOThere is absolutely no change in this recipe from my original April post, but lots o’ folk seem surprised when they hear about, or are served this wicked simple, wicked tasty bread – made with just seven ingredients (if you include water), and a bread machine.

OilWaterHoneybfLOThis is our preferred bread for sammiches; and not too, too bad for French toast when a bit long in the tooth; or cut into cubes, tossed with olive oil and herbs and toasted in a slow oven for croutons; or (after said toasting) run through the Cuisinart to make bread crumbs. I should note that if you plan on keeping a loaf of this little bit of bread goodness around for more than one day, you really SHOULD have a bread box. Bread box or not, it is far easier to slice this loaf thin after it is at least a day old – BUT – a warm from the machine, fresh pulled hunk o’ bread slathered with some really good butter is truly a treat.

02BreadMachinebfLOINGREDIENTS
•1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
•1-1/3 cup water
•1-1/2 tbsp honey
•1 tbsp sugar
•1/2 tsp salt
•3 cups flour
•2 tsp yeast

Combine the olive oil, water, and honey in your bread machine, then add the sugar and the salt.

05BreadSlicedbfLOTop this with the flour.

Sprinkle the yeast over all.

Set your machine for a 1-1/2 pound loaf of basic or French bread, go do something else for about four hours, and let it go.

Mmmmmmmm.

Fresh baked bread and good, good butter.
