Spicy Russian Salad Dressing

02SpicyRussianDressingJarbfLOI came across this recipe from The Victory Garden somewhere, can’t recall where, but the ingredients looked  interesting, and there was this new stuff I wanted to try.

We try to limit Rich’s dairy intake, so when I came across something in teh market that said it was ‘better than sour cream’, I forked over the $5 to try it out.

It wasn’t.

The dressing is still pretty darned tasty, tho’.

01SpicyRussianDressingIngredientsbfLOINGREDIENTS
•1 cup mayonnaise
•1/4 cup sour cream (or this other stuff)
•1/2 tsp Sriracha
•1/4 tsp fish sauce
•1 tbsp ketchup
•1 tbsp salad vinegar
•1 tbsp low-salt tamari (or soy sauce)
•1 tsp powdered ginger
03SpicyRussianDressingJarbfLO•1/4 tsp Seasoned Salt
•1 tbsp dried onion
•1 tsp parsley
•1 tsp sweet relish

Yeh, it’s a lot of ingredients, and I have drifted a bit (surprise!) from the original recipe (look it up, if you like), but look at what’s in your regular bottle of dressing from the market, then gather a mixing bowl and settle down.

CremeFraichebfLOStir all the ingredients together, then transfer to a lidded container and stash in the fridge until needed.

Nice, even with that kinda vile tofu mishegas. Imagine how much nicer it would be with sour cream, or mebbe even créme fraîche?

Now THAT would be a salad dressing!

Also, taste it when you make your own and see what you think, but I think I could have mebbe bumped up the Sriracha to a full teaspoon.

I agree that Better Than Sour Cream isn’t better or even as good – but in my waffle recipe and with my non-stick waffle iron, it makes a good substitute (I add a teaspoon of vanilla to help hide the tofu taste).
