I’ve done Whiskey Dogs (which really are kinda hard to beat), and I’ve done gingered sausages with Dijon in a bread bowl, you’d think we’ve pretty much covered the subject of small smoked sausage appetizers, but, no.
I had this packet of “L’il Smokies” in the freezer that needed something done with it, and was not feeling the love for searching out a bread round to hollow out. Off to da Google for inspiration…
And it’s not too, too bad, either.
INGREDIENTS
•1/2 cup barbecue sauce
•1 tbsp pepper jelly
•1 tbsp Dijon mustard
•1/4 cup brown sugar
•1 (1 lb) pkg l’il smokies
Combine the sauce ingredients together in a slow cooker – we have this mini crock pot thing-y that works a treat for small munchies like this – then add the sausages and stir until well and truly coated.
Cover and cook on low for about an hour, until the sauce is nicely caramelized and the sausages are heated through.
Serve.
Little muss, no real fuss to speak of; I like that in a munchie!
Oh, as an option, feel free to add 1/4 to 1/2 cup of bourbon, or mebbe some spiced rum, to the sauce.
And, mebbe some crusty bread to soak up the leftover sauce.
Just a thought.
