7 Up Barbecue Sauce

There are times that recipes from days gone by should mebbe stay in the past.

I have not quite made up my mind about this one just yet.

Not that it was bad, or even unpleasant. It was just kinda there, which, when you consider that I started with my own, home made Barbecue Sauce – which is, if I do say so myself, loaded with flavor – more than just a little bit surprising. Mebbe I should have simmered it a bit first?

In any event; I followed the mid-century recipe almost to the letter (using one’s own barbecue sauce was more than likely not in the original plan) and, well…

here we are…

INGREDIENTS
•7 oz 7 Up
•12 oz barbecue sauce

That is it! Stir the two together, then…

prep your meat/poultry, whatever, then brush on the sauce and finish.

I chose a rack of pork spare ribs which I lightly seasoned, arranged in a baking dish, covered tightly with foil, and baked in a 350º oven for 75 minutes.

Pull off the foil and drain any fat or cooking liquids from the pan, then brush with the barbecue sauce.

Recover with the foil and pop back into the oven for 30 minutes, then remove the foil, brush with a bit more sauce, and return to the oven, uncovered, for another 30 minutes, then serve.

Tender, fairly tasty ribs, but, they were missing a little something.

Perhaps if I had finished them on the grill after applying the sauce; of if I had simmered the sauce a bit in the first place.

Still and all; simple, and not terrible, which is really all you can ask for some nights.
