All thanks to our best bud Bob for:
1) introducing us to this majorly good award-winning cheese, and:
2) searching out and buying the last chunk to be had at the West Allis Cheese & Sausage Shoppe for me on Saturday.
Produced in Iowa by Milton Creamery, Prairie Breeze is a slightly crumbly cheddar (they call it a hybrid alpine cheddar) that – to me – combines the slight tang of a nice hunk o’ cheddar with the nutty overtones of my favorite American Grana. I liked this cheese so much that I pretty much ignored the perfectly lovely slab o’ Stilton next to it on the tray, and my love for a nice slab o’ Stilton is well known.
Yummmmm, Stilton…
Back to the cheddar!
This is not a block of cheese to toss in with your macaroni (ermmm, or turn into cheeze food) – not that there’s anything wrong with that! This is a cheese to enjoy on it’s own, or (just about perfect, in my not-so-humble opinion) on top of a nice slice of apple galette.
Hmmmm, better add apples to my market list…
