Now, I realize that “seasoned salt” is not a thing that folk give a lot of thought to, but they really, really should.
First; pick up that seasoned salt in the spice aisle at the market and look at the ingredients.
A lot of stuff, right?
Why, when you can make your own, at home, better, and – this is the real bonus for me – customized to your tastes!
INGREDIENTS
•4 tbsp salt
•4 tsp sugar
•1 tsp garlic powder
•1/2 tsp dried parsley
•1/2 tsp paprika
•1/2 tsp curry powder
•1/2 tsp turmeric
•1/2 tsp cornstarch
•1/4 tsp red pepper
•1/4 tsp black pepper
Note: this is my preferred blend. Don’t like all that sugar? Reduce it, or mebbe even eliminate it entirely. Wanna add some dried dill or black pepper or mebbe onion powder? Go ahead!
Whisk all the ingredients together in a bowl, then transfer to a small, lidded container for storage. If you choose to add parsley, as I did here, or other dried herbs, you may want to run your salt blend through a spice mill or coffee grinder to really mince things small.
Hmmm, I wonder how a quarter teaspoon or so of instant espresso powder would work?
Happy salting!
