The holidaze are almost upon us, which means that it is high time to prepare a little sumpin’ sumpin’ sparkling and, with families gathering, more than likely with a bit of alcohol in it.
My husband found this recipe on line from the nice Folk at Southern Living, and we thought it’d be just the thing for Sunday afternoon Book Club.
It was a hoooge hit, and I only changed a couple of things…
I used a grapefruit porsecco we’d picked up last summer at Trader Joe’s and then stashed in the fridge and forgot about.
Too bad, because it was yummy!
The other change I made was that I used Simply Orange Juice orange and mango juice blend.
Also yummy, and my current fave juice.
INGREDIENTS
•2 cups orange juice
•1 cup pineapple juice
•2 tbsp grenadine
•1 bottle Champagne or other sparkling wine, chilled
Combine the juices together with the grenadine in a large pitcher and chill.
When ready to serve, pour juice into a glass, then top off with an equal amount of Champagne or sparkling wine.
Note: love the concept, but not the whole wine part? No problem! Simply substitute ginger ale, lemon-lime soda, or sparkling juice for the Champagne.
Nice combo, and we went though a fair amount, with one slightly frazzled friend only dismayed that the last two glasses she had downed did not have any wine in them because she did not realize it was a mix as you go thing.
Oh well. One lives, one learns.
