When last we left the kitchen a fresh batch of limoncello had been brewed, just in time for the holidays! Now, what to do with it?
Serving it on the rocks is nice, or, as my sister does, splashed over a fruit salad, or, as I like it, with a bit of frozen strawberry and a dab o’ prosecco in a (large) wine glass.
But, none of that really fits the season, to me. Hmmm, how’s about some fruit, and some wine, and mebbe a wee, tiny bit of Triple Sec?
Yes, please, limoncello sangria is just the thing for your holiday gatherings! I used an inexpensive Riesling for this batch, but Chardonnay, Vouvray, or your favorite variety (mebbe even a blush wine) would work as well; and it’s dead simple!
INGREDIENTS
•2 pears, diced
•1 apple, diced
•1 orange, sliced and quarterted
•1 lemon, sliced
•1 lime, sliced
•1 bottle white wine
•1-1/2 cup limoncello
•2 tbsp Triple Sec
•Sparkling water
Prepare the fruit and layer in a pitcher.
Add the limoncello, the Triple Sec, and the wine.
Stir, then stash in the fridge for an hour or so for the flavors to blend.
Serve on the rocks with a splash of sparkling water.
Nice…
and, as you can see, I still have plenty of limoncello to make another batch…
or three.
‘Tis the season, after all!
