Red Sammich Sauce

02aRedSammichSaucebfLOThis recipe is based on Won Ton Sauce, a spread for roast beef sammiches, from Tune Inn Restaurant and Bar in Washington D.C., who were featured on Food Network’s Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.

I cut way back on the amounts called for, added an ingredient or two, and, when I sampled the finished spread, thought that this would be good for sooo much more than just a roast beef sammich, so I changed the name to ‘red sammich spread’ and got it together to share…

01aRedSammichSauceIngbfLOINGREDIENTS
•1/2 cup mayonnaise
•1/2 cup ketchup
•2 tbsp horseradish
•1 tbsp paprika (note: try sweet Hungarian)
•1-1/2 black pepper
•1-1/2 tsp Aleppo pepper
•1-1/2 tsp Sherry Peppers Sauce*

01cSauceBlendbfLO*No Sherry Peppers? No problem! It is very simple to make, but feel free to leave it out, or replace it with your own fave garlic or hot sauce to taste.

Combine all the ingredients together in a mixing bowl or beaker and whisk until well blended (an immersion blender works a treat, here).

02cSauceShrimpBurgerbfLOTransfer to a covered container and stash in the fridge for a couple of hours to allow the flavors to blend before slathering on your sammich of choice.

Roast beef? Sure.

Hamburgers? No problem!

Shrimp burgers? YeahYouBetcha!

Details on that to come.

Until then, make this sauce!
